Lane prodding the "Gronk"

Postby HumanCockroach » Thu Jan 22, 2015 5:37 pm

I'm all for our players being themselves, and I am fully aware of Lanes value, and scrappiness, but come on Mr. Lane, don't be making the jobs tougher on OTHER players, Lane will not ONCE be covering Gronk one on one, that will fall on KJ, Wags, Bruce, Kam or maybe Earl or Sherm, but in no scenario, do I see Lane locking horns with him one on one. Anyone else? Gronk is a freak of nature, and while I DO believe Seattle can and will limit his impact, I certainly don't like a player that doesn't have to put his money where his mouth is, talking smack.

I saw that and I thought it was very stupid. maybe Jeremy needs to take lessons from Marshawn and STFU.

Wow...another Jeremy who doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut during the Super Bowl lead up. Jeremy Stevens anyone?

I like it! It's called getting in their head! Bait mostly, just giving something for the Pats to think about. Gronk will be fully covered and hopefully Hoody tries to make it a point to get him the ball.

Smart if you ask me. But what do I know?

No kidding. Lane needs to shut his cake hole.

Gronk creates matchup problems for every team in the league, and we are no different. I suspect that the bulk of the responsibility for covering him will fall on Kam's shoulders.

With out pulling the stats up, I seem to remember the Hawks putting a pretty good clamp on him in the past.

For some reason I hope they target him early and often..... I can totally see Cam knocking him out of the game by the 2nd half if they fall for the fodder.

I'm more worried about Edelman.

Gronk is a beast. So is the LOB. But Lane? Wtf!!! dont bring the collective team IQ down 20 points saying stupid stuff like that. Really? Let the starters do the talking if it needs to happen at all. I liked how Sherm called out Brady. Hes earned the right.

Don't misunderstand.I like the LOBs chances with Gronk. They made Vernon Davis and Jimmy Graham disappear on multiple occasions and particularly in the case of the Saints there were a lot more weapons to defend.Seattle has made almost every*elite* QB in the league look foolish at least once over the past 3 seasons

I feel like Gronk is the key for NE.Thats assuming the Hawks contain Blount. If they dont stop the run Seattle will need to score 50 to win. Edleman, Amendola, and Lafell do not terrify me and they have already blown their wad on trick plays getting here.

I think if Seattle can slow down Gronk and the run game they will win easily. They looked dominant their last time in the SB stadium, just like last year.....

Jimmy Graham

My bad.... That's what I was remembering .

Still think the Hawks will be all over the Gronk.

Pretty boy ain't gonna have a field day in the Super Bowl.

I truly believe the D is going to do it again!

Go Hawks.

Gronk is more of a beast than any tight end that Kam and Co. has had to face in the past two years, better than Vernon Davis, better than Greg Olson, better than Julius Thomas. I'll be happy if we limit him to 50 yards on 5 catches and keep him out of the end zone.

Don't get me wrong, I tend not to care one way or another what a player says, my issue is a player that will not be covering someone, talking smack about that person. If Lane had said Eddleman, or Amendola weren't all that good, I wouldn't have even posted the topic, but in this instance Lane is writing checks that someone ELSE has to cash, and IMHO that is stupid.

Had no issue with Sherman calling that receiver mediocre, or calling himself optimus prime, because he was going to be lining up opposite the man, but had Sheman called Watt a weenie last season before Houston, or claimed Suh was a little girl, I most certainly would have. At that point, you are making things more difficult on someone else, making their job more difficult, which makes it stupid IMHO.

I know that players being themselves is important, but who the hell is Lane to call out gronk? The latter is part of a group of dudes (leading that group, btw) revitionalizing the TE position and Lane is a nickel/back-up. He's good, he's special, he's important, but he's NO KAM, NO KJ, NO SHERM etc. do we really need to add this lame Lane quote to the national narrative? Maybe it's precisely because he isn't one of those dudes that makes him feel the need to call attention to himself. SMH

He'd better play well.

I guess if you're gonna say something ill-advised, better to do it 10 days before kickoff rather than on the eve of the game.

Either way, Lane hasn't Earned the right to take this approach and, generally speaking, it's not a good idea to begin with.

Yeah I think that Lane was using this opportunity to lobby the captain of the Knucklehead squad Tharold SImon into a higher status position such as vice-chairman of the squad?

It was stupid enough what he said about Gronk.

But then he got in an "Elite Knucklehead" moment when he also said the following in the same interview.

>>>>>>>“Yeah, I actually don’t think he’s that good,” Lane said of the 6-foot-6, 255-pound key to the Feb. 1 Super Bowl.

“Really?” some of the reporters replied.

“Yeah,” Lane said. “He’s OK. But, you know, he do have a big body, and from what I’ve seen on tape, you know, he don’t like your hands being put on him. So, you know, we put our hands on him and shake him up a little bit, he won’t catch that many balls as he should.”<<<<<<<<

Are you Kidding me Lane? You just gave for the first time ever " Bulletin Board material for the Referees Locker room".

I am not worried about Lane comments Instigating the Pats.

But Instigating the referees before the biggest game of the year? That is some Pro-Bowl quality Knucklehead behavior.....

Dear Mr. Lane-

STFU, please. Whether you think you can manage him or not, Gronk is a 3-time All-Pro (iirc). I don't care if you talk sht about him, but quit saying stupid things (and yeah, talking about all the illegal behavior you'll use is doubling down on your stupidity).

Thanks.

Sincerely,

The 12s

Gotta love Pete's response:

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters Friday that his cornerback's comments come from a place of ignorance.

"Jeremy just hasn't watched film yet," Carroll said.

Nice job by the coach to try and diffuse it the best he can, and I am sure he has had a little chat.

Who knows, maybe Gronk catches one in front of Lane and let's his emotions spike and takes a taunting penalty.

Lane has been good for us, especially on Special Teams, definitely not his finest moment with that comment, but it's all good.
