This is meant to be more light hearted, not so much complaining about how underwhelming/poorly the season has gone. So ... the most depressing thing about this season to me is watching the three guys I was in the bag for the most at draft time seemingly becoming exactly what I thought they would become and the Seahawks didn't draft them. In order, my wish list for the 2014 draft was:

Mike Evans
Odell Beckham, Jr.
Joel Bitonio

Obviously we never had a chance at the first two but still. I was resigned to the fact that we weren't going to get Mike Evans by about 2 weeks into the playoffs but I wanted Odell Beckham, Jr. so badly in that draft that I actually made the meaningless superstitious point of not even typing his name during the entire offseason up through the draft as if it would somehow tip everyone else off. And Bitonio is just a mauler.

I do that sometimes, too but it turns out to be just an exercise in emotional control.

You have to keep in mind the fit to the systems before you try to imagine someone in our uniform.
Would Bitonio fit for what Cable wants - meaning is he athletic or versatile enough for our OL? I don't know the answer, but our FO didn't think he was the best selection at the time we chose.

It's often the way the draft falls and it's not an exact science in any case.

I feel your pain. We looked long and hard at Beckham and were rumored as one of his top suitors. I actually wanted Cooks. Instead we got Ellington, who does not look close to either and has not shown anything but the willingness to fair catch every punt he receives. Hawks and Niners have different priorities than most teams though, so maybe the wise choice for each of them was not to trade up. I know for us that trade may have cost us Boreland or Lynch, and I am quite happy with both.

Beckham....OMG this may be the best rookie reciever class ever. Hopefully Richardson can get in the discussion someday. But Beckham and Sherman exchanging jerseys tells you all you need to know.

There's certainly no shortage of holes to fill next spring.

DL (pass rusher), OL, WR.

I also think it would be wise to draft the heir apparent to Lynch, particularly since Michael has not gained Pete's trust enough to get significant carries so far this year. The guy really should have been able to earn the #2, but has failed to do so.

LB, TE, and even CB for depth, because you can never have enough of those guys.

Ultimately, it starts with both sides of the line. RW does amazingly well consider how poor his protection is, and the LOB is only afforded so much pressure up front by the DL.

Just a marginal improvement in both those areas next year could see us get back to 12-13 win total, IMO.

OL has been the Seahawks' achilles heal for years now, especially in pass protection.

In a word...joke.

It's so frustrating to see RW have to run for his life on passing downs. It's only because of his scrambling and decision making that save our line's rep, if only a little.

It's a tiresome topic, but it will be - yet again - among the top priorities for 2015. It's shocking to see Wilson have longer than 2 seconds to stand in the pocket, rare as it is.

Most depressing thing about the season so far is that the Cheerleader's outfits keep covering more and more Cheerleader as the weather gets colder.

But that kinda happens every year huh? ... (sigh)

You've seen the state of our line right? If this is what we get when we give Cable what he wants I'd say it's time to go in another direction.

P.S. Bitonio played in a zone blocking system in college. On paper he was a great fit. I accept that they are going to choose who they want and it almost never matches up with what I want but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

I fully understand what you mean, Kal. I also wanted some players that were overlooked by our FO and wasn't trying to make excuses for them.
I read last year about how the Seahawks draft and psychologist reports are an important factor. Maybe some of these guys wouldn't fit in with our team even though they look good on other teams.

I think our OL is not very good at run blocking as well as pass blocking. People look at the yardage we gain, but rarely factor in Lynch and how he sets up the blocks and breaks the first and often second tackles. We really have trouble with short yardage plays, and it seems we have had this issue for 4 years.

It might be Cable, or it might be Pete and John are concentrating on Defense first - like it was for the Offense when Holmgren was here it seemed like Defense was not the first consideration when ranking drafts.

If you really want to be depressed, think about how many trophies we would have if we had this Defense with Holmgren's Offense 10 years ago.
