Yeah, good point. Now Bob what happens IF no team signs him and the Hawks cannot come to an agreement, and the FA deadline passes?

There is no 'deadline' for signing a UFA, but the longer he goes unsigned, the more his marketability drops as teams decide to move on.

I wonder if he's developed a reputation amongst GMs that he's difficult to deal with or has
unreasonable expectations. This is 2 teams now he has had trouble coming to an agreement.

Probably more the latter than the former. He was a #1 overall so that alone would tend to increase a player's assessment of their value.

Brandon Shell contract details:

Two years, $11MM. Includes $5.1MM guaranteed, $4MM signing bonus. Yearly $500K playing-time incentives, up to $400K roster bonus in 2020, up to $425K roster bonus in 2021 (via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle).

It looks like a smaller Cap hit this year and a quick one year hit if he's cut next year.

We released Tedrick Thompson and Ed Dickson today.
That gives us about $5mm more in Cap space.

Thanks for the update North. So these both seemed like givens, but wondering about the timing of it now. Is it a pre cursor to something being done.

I have to wonder if Pete and John have given Clowney a deadline or not before they are set to move onto other options, that being the franchise tagged players like Ngakoue and Judon. Not sure of the fit of either of those players as I really haven't seen them play. But both appear to be in play for trades. If the Hawks could pull a trade off for Ngakoue (that would most likely come with a long term deal worked out, as long as that can still happen?) and get Clowney on a 1 year deal cheap, that would have most of us pretty excited. It would probably mean Clowney leaving after next year, but it would going all in for next season.

According to PFT, the Jags are approaching trading Ngakoue the same as they did with Jalen Ramsey.
They got a haul for him and want the same for Ngakoue.

That would suggest he's not an option for us, so it will probably be Griffen as the only addition with or without Clowney.

Benson Mayowa is coming back and at a nice 2m contract. I liked him as Rookie FA. Was sad to see him cut. He comes off a 7 sack season as a reserve. That's 2x any of our D Line last year. He'd be a frick'en hero if he came in and repeated that for the Seahawks pathetic pass rush. Now we have both Benson and Bruce Irvin back and both are 'pass-rush specialists' from a few years back. Weird year for FA's. What is Pete planning on doing on 3rd down?

A solid signing and especially when you consider our anemic pass rush it looks like a great addition, but you have to wonder given the sack numbers he put up in such limited play why he didn't receive any better offers than a paltry $2M.

That's the 2m question, RD. Who knows, the team never reveals much about why certain players are worth 'that much more' than others.

And Joey Hunt signed his tender along with Niko Thorpe and Jacob Holister (to a second round tender)

We signed most of our RFA's this week, so, f they were all 'free agents' and not counted against our cap, where does that leave us now? I know that these players weren't starters, but all told, it's got to be around 10m in cap gone.

Proof positive that we've moved on from Clowney and perhaps Griffen as well.

Clearly not all of these OL signings are going to be on the roster come game day and some may be gone after
the draft, but it is a bit confusing considering the need on the DL.
Maybe they think it's a good draft for the types of players the Seahawks like or need along the DL.
We'll find out in a few more days.

The Hawks are still sitting with about 12 mil of cap space, but will need about 4 mil to sign drafted players, so in reality they have about 8 mil. They definitely still have enough to sign Clowney, if they want to especially because they can maneuver the cap how they want. They could also sign them to a longer contract and lower their cap number. My issue has always been would you rather have Hunt, Hollister, and Moore for 8 million or Clowney and Griffen?? Or if we were at 13 mil and Clowney would have taken 15 why not let one of them walk and get that deal done with Clowney? Clearly there wasn’t a big market for any of them as they didn’t get one other contract offer. Hunt clearly is a league minimum type of guy and we are doubling that for him. Anyway, we still have room for Clowney or Griffen, it’s just frustrating we haven’t gotten it done yet. At this point it makes the most sense to wait until after the draft, but that might bring in another team to bid up his price too...

Last year on the Tuesday before the draft, the Hawks traded Frank. I think they will add a DL in advance of Thursday. But WTH do I know?

Gronk's Back!! Reunited with Brady in Tampa. Bucs give up a 4th and get Gronk and a 7th rounder. Although he's been out of the league for a year he is still only 30 years old (31 by the start of next season).

Seahawks just added a 1000 yard rusher and a player who gave us FITS when he was with SFO... Welcome Carlos Hyde to the Seahawks for 2020.
That's a nice insurance policy to have going forward.

I like this signing, they really needed a vet as insurance for Carson and Penny. Hyde had a really good year last year, I remember him being a physical runner. I had heard the Hawks made an offer to D. Freeman as well this week, so something was brewing there.

Wonder if Josh Gordon gets reinstated, if the Hawks will look at signing him back. He would be a good #3/4 WR on this team to go with Lockett, Metcalf, and Dorsett.

The offense looks like it is good to go, plenty of depth now, just a matter if the O-line comes together, always the big question. Still want Clowney back, that would be a great offseason.

I see where Joe Flacco signed with the Jets. There's still a couple of former starting QB's left on the market, including Cam Newton, who swears he won't sign unless he's allowed to compete for a starting job.

Looks like we can put an end to the rumors of Beast's return. Perhaps we can get him to raise the 12th man flag in front of a raucous crowd of 20,000 socially distanced fans.

Apparently Gordon wants to play for us again, so if he's reinstated, there's a good chance that he could end up here. He played well and from all reports, was a good teammate. I also saw where Russell Wilson wants us to go after Antonio Brown. I doubt that we'll have the money or the gonads to sign him.

According to PFT and Clayton, Wilson wants us to sign Antonio Brown.
Now HE’s a mental case.

Edit:
I think the Hyde signing might be a good thing. A 1-2 punch with Carson could work out
well if the revamped OL can produce. It might mean we’re moving on from Prosise as
he might be the odd man out.

Russell also wanted AB last year and he went East. Not sure if either AB or Josh would really help us without a training camp.
Josh helped in a couple of games, but overall really wasn't "that" receiver. AB would give us a 3rd legit deep threat.

I was going to say that. Gordon isn't a head case. He basically had one problem, his addiction to marijuana. Now that the league has relaxed their policy regarding it, he'd be a great addition if we can make his salary fit. He's already proven that he can work well within our offense.

But I'd be extremely leery of Antonio Brown. He had major problems with 3 teams within a year. Any deal with him would have to include some major strings attached.

Josh knows the system and plays, so he could fit right in and be an asset. They gave him a light workload last year when he arrived, but I think
his responsibilities could increase if he gets reinstated. And that's the key. Will the NFL reinstate him? It looks better now than it did when he
was suspended the last time.

I think Russ has the same problem Holmgren had (Pete as well to a lesser degree); thinks that "he" can be the difference in someone's life enough to get the potential out of them on the field without having to worry about the dumpster fire off it.

I have zero interest in AB.

Agreed, although I think Pete has suffered from that disease every bit as much as Holmgren did, at least early on in his time with us, the most glaring example being Percy Harvin.

Russell does seem to be a bit of a Pollyanna.

Obi the only thing Josh Gordon has ever needed to be rescued from is his marijuana addiction. To my knowledge, there's never been any reports that he's ever been a locker room or coaching problem anywhere he's played, whether it be in college, with the Browns, the Patriots, and most certainly not with us. If you or anyone else has information that would contradict this opinion, by all means please fill me in.

Now that the league has relaxed their substance abuse policy regarding marijuana and given that he'd be playing in a state where recreational use is legal, most of his issues with it interfering with his eligibility will be resolved. He's a huge talent and would immediately elevate our receiving corps to one of the top units in the league.
