They now have 2 firsts.

You and I might think of it that way, but there's going to be a certain segment of the population that will be looking at it from a different POV.

This isn't very good for the league's PR image. Here we are in the middle of the biggest crisis since 9/11 and these guys are signing inflated contracts for mega millions. Everyone else is seeing their 401K's get hammered, many will be out of work, while these guys are sitting there fat, dumb, and happy. It's only going to widen the gulf between super star players and their fans.
Because of the circumstances. The timing couldn't be worse. No one's going to see a banner with Mike Trout's almost 1/2 BILLION dollar contract running under images of first responders dressed like they're handling nuclear waste, stores with blocks long lines and empty shelves, and of the stock market crashing. But they will see all of those ugly images on top of a banner running with news of Kirk Cousin's $33 million contract.

There is going to be economic carnage the next 6 months to a year. Do they put everything on hold until the economy returns to where it was in January?
For us to get back to normal (whatever that may be) things have to be in place and one of the big ones is entertainment like sports. The NFL in this
case would be months behind if it suspended the league year and started again in let's say August. It would probably turn into a scat show and the season
would end up with an asterisk. This way, the pieces will be in place and when the virus has run its course and stadiums can again be filled, the NFL can
then proceed in an orderly fashion with its ducks already in a row.
Some people may not like it today, but they will have forgotten it tomorrow. That's the lesson from sports and entertainment.

Had to let all except one of my employees go to make sure we have a business to come back to. Sad world. Haven't seen this since the Gulf War stopped all the show biz world years ago.

As for there being a PR issue with the timing of free agency, I come down on the "damn glad to have something newsworthy besides corona virus madness to talk about" side of it.
*My company BTW has, as of yesterday suspended all collections actions and disconnects for commercial and residential customers until situations normalize. I like these folks.

Looks like 30 mil on a one year deal. This is just another example of The Patriot Way. They are not going to overpay for anybody and at age 42 30 mil for Tom Brady is an overpay. It is going to be really weird seeing Tom Brady in that ugly Bucs Uni!!

Maybe that's true he was 'overpaid' in strictly football sense. But, the NFL is big, big business. Tampa's 'season ticket' hot-line had to be shut down today as it overloaded with people wanting to buy for the coming year. How much more TV exposure will TB get vs this year? How many more people will travel to Tampa to see him? In a business sense, it's a great move for a dying city team, like Tampa. If Brady puts Tampa into the playoffs, then it also becomes a big "football" deal, too.

It's a lot easier to take less when the finances are not an issue.
