I watched just for the hell of it and was amazed at how much I liked watching commercial-free sports. You get about 50 minutes straight, 15 minute break, then 50 more minutes. Unless it's a tournament, games are guaranteed to be over in about 2 hours. Find a bar near you that shows the games and see if you like the atmosphere. Plus, the Sounders are really good. The season is just starting and takes up the football offseason perfectly.
I've tried to get into both soccer and hockey and I just can't get myself interested. Soccer didn't even exist as an American sport when I was in high school. We played it once in high school PE as a sort of experiment with different sports like rugby, volleyball, badminton, et al. One of my best friends is a former professional soccer player, played for Romania's national team, and even he can't get me interested. I'm only interested in the sports I played competitively in, ie football, basketball, and baseball.
