2022 Draft

Postby tarlhawk » Sat Jan 15, 2022 12:27 pm

Based on the newly released list of team draft selections with the playoffs finalized...the Jets have our 1rst rd selection and with it they are selecting 10th...their own record gives them the 4th overall pick in the 1rst Round. So our own picks beginning in the 2nd round should be within the top 10 of each round and an extra 4th rd pick (from the Jets) within the top 5 of round 4. Too early to even guess who will be available entering the 2nd round but I am hoping for the following types of selections:

2nd round ...An Edge type for the D-Line

3rd round ...A LB with known coverage skills or a highly regarded C/G for our O-Line interior

4th round ...(from Jets) A ball hawking safety...or a shut down corner (DB)

4th round ...More O-Line Tackle depth or some DB (Corner) depth if previous pick went to a safety

5th round ...O-Line interior depth C/G or an In-line blocking TE

7th round ...Wild card (another D-Line Edge/DT Run Stuffer ...or more RB/WR/LB depth)

The good news here is that the strength of this draft will be after the first round, and we have 4 picks in the 2d, 3d and 4th. It seems as though some players who will be taken in the top 20 would not be first rounders in most drafts.

I like you emphasis on line play, pass rush and corners, but I don't agree that taking another safety should be in the works. The offensive line depth in this draft seems very good, and as you reflected, should be in the plans, especially at center. Linebacker is not a big priority in my mind, and I could see taking one with a 4th or 5th round pick.

A late round flier on a RB would make sense also, considering the injury history of our current backs.

Predictably, I'll say: Let the draft season begin. The draft is one of my favorite areas of speculation.
