Minshew mania

Postby Hawktawk » Mon Dec 06, 2021 12:12 pm

Yeah it was the Jets but 80% completion , 244 yards and 2 TDs and a 130 qbr not too shabby . There are actually backups doing very well all over the league . Heinike is 4-0 last month , Colt Mcoy did a great job going 2-1. Tyrod Taylor is playing hard . Geno didn’t embarrass himself , just couldn’t get over the hump . Even one of the three he finished with a l would be big .

But I see Minshew as having the biggest upside of all these guys . He’s young , mobile , fearless . He’s not had a lot of wins but his personal stats are not bad at all with 39 TD passes and only 9 picks in his career . He completed 65% of his passes last year. He’s a leader and those guys love him there . Eagles FO was quick to say it’s Hurts job when he’s healthy but my guess is next time he’s stinking it up the hook might be a little quicker .

But something is going on with him, because I agree about his talent level, but he's bounced around the league now for a few years, so the GM's/coaches don't see what we see in highlights.

Living about 1.5 hours from Pullman and having worked with a ton of Coug fans, I was very much exposed to the 'Stache mania. A number of very intelligent football minds swear that he's a solid starting quarterback that's always played well and should be given a shot at another starting job.

If Russell does decide to move on, I wouldn't be at all opposed to bringing this guy in and let him compete. I agree with Hawktalk, this guy is flying under the radar and could be a real diamond in the rough if given the right opportunity.

It seems Jacksonville is as much of a graveyard for young qbs as NYJ. It’s a bad organization and this generational talent Lawrence looks worse than Minshew did . Comparing their stats as rooks would be interesting .

As I watch the guy his Achilles heel is trying to do too much , taking sacks and getting stripped . He’s really little like Russ that way , never gives up on a play but perhaps less raw skills to make it happen . I think he’s a starter someday somewhere and if it’s a good team around him he could do very well

I'm not so sure that Lawrence is a generational talent. He was the best QB in the 2021 draft but the Jags might have been better off sticking with Minshew and trading down to accumulate more top shelf talent.

In any event, I think Minshew deserves another starting gig somewhere. He's like Kellen Moore, the victim of being a 6th round pick at a high profile position. He doesn't get respect and has to perform to twice the expectations with half the opportunities that a first rounder would.

The NFL draft pick scheme and parity eats up a lot of young QB talent. The best talent necessarily winds up on the worst teams where it gets buried.

The thing about Minshew is he’s not gonna shrink . He said in preseason he wanted to beat out Lawrence leading to Meyer trading him . He’s got starter swag. He seems very popular among fans and teammates . He may never get to the top but nobody is gonna crush his spirit .

I dug up some stats to provide fuel for the Minshew controversy . These are some of the young guys starting around the league
Minshew 39 TD 11 int 21 starts
Hurts 19 TD 12 int. 16 starts but huge wheels
Jones 45 TD 29 int 37 starts
Darnold 52 TDs 50 int. 47 starts

Per average Minshew is easily the most efficient Qb of the bunch . If I were Hurts I’d be putting in the work and not screwing up games.

And Darnold is easily the least efficient of the bunch with a 1:1 TD to INT ratio. That is almost unbelievable! The guy must be color blind.
