Eskridge

Postby RiverDog » Wed Oct 27, 2021 3:46 am

Dee Eskridge, our top draft pick in the 2021 draft, was injured in our first regular season game with the Colts and hasn't been on the field yet. They still don't have a timetable for his return.

Schneider said Dee Eskridge is in Florida seeing a concussion expert. Said he'll be back with the team next week, but they don't know yet if he'll be back when he's eligible to return from IR against the Jaguars.

I had high hopes for him in this new Offense and I think he might be a difference maker if he was healthy. Like was said in other threads,
this might be one of those situations whereby he never really fulfills his potential as head injuries are so unpredictable and the risks so great.

Yeah, this could be another Malik McDowell. One more high draft pick that for one reason or another, hasn't produced.

Bust. I didnt like the pick, and I said so at the time! He's Paul Richardson lite. 5-9, sub 200 guys usually dont make it in the league. It was a waste of a good pick, the only one we really had. Its just a long line of bust in the PC era post SB win. PC's drafting has not been bad, its been HORRIBLE. Its going to get harder for me to remember what Pete did for us, instead of how after the SB he FUBARED everything.

More on Eskridge:

Carroll said Dee Eskridge has had "visual" issues since his Week 1 concussion. That's what he's worked on during his two visits to a concussion expert in Florida. He's returning tonight. Carroll said reports from that trip are positive, but not known if he'll practice tomorrow.

Wow
Blurred vision for 7 weeks. If I was that guy I’d take what I can keep and get the hell out . Looking like another bad break with another head scratching pick. My guess we will be lucky if he sees the field again .

It actually wasn’t that head scratching of a pick. Bumpus wrote an article basically predicting/promoting Esk a few weeks before the draft. We clearly have missed him. Obviously Humphreys would have been better for the oline, but you know how Pete/John are allergic to drafting quality OL.

Dont misunderstand. In his very limited opportunities the guy looked like Harvin minus the attitude, explosive. I was rethinking my draft day appraisal. But when I saw that hit I knew it was bad and I dont know how you ever clear someone who had blurred vision for 2 months to go get hit like that again.

Blurred vision from a concussion doesn't necessarily mean permanent damage:

Concussions and blurred vision often go hand-in-hand. Because the visual system includes the eyes, brain and visual pathways, even a mild concussion can result in blurred vision.

Yes, it's more than your garden variety concussion. But not necessarily career ending.

At this point, there's not much sense in rushing Eskridge back to the playing field. With our loss Monday night, our odds of making the playoffs, even under the 14 team formant, are just 11%, or about one in ten.

According to PFT he's back from vision therapy in Florida and could practice today. Who knows how good a shape he's in and how much work it
will take to get into game shape.

Concussion problems this early means he should likely retire. It isn't going to get any easier.

It was a vicious 3 part collision. 2 players the the ground right in the head . I’ve had TBIs, fractured skull, head on collision . You’re in a fog for months . I’d say at a minimum put him on IR for the year. Our struggles aren’t about a lack of options to throw to. Protect this kid . Honestly I’m cool if he never played again if it’s best for his health .
