Yeah, we traded next year's 6th.

I give the whole draft a B, I am probably being generous, but I am getting old. I have lost faith in PC to draft Offensive talent, not without good reason.

DK Metcalf with a low #2? Chris Carson with a 7th rounder? And although he's been injured, how about Will Dissly with a 4th rounder?

Next to the Patriots, we've had more success than any other team in the past decade. The penalty for that success is that we're always drafting from a low slot, usually in the high 20's like we were this season.

The success of most of those teams was Defense. It's been just the last couple of years that the emphasis was on Offense and they
still haven't figured out how to build a good OL. Without Russell it's a very poor Offense. When the Saints lost Brees and a number
of years ago the Pats lost Brady, their Offenses still continued. We don't have the run or pass game to do the same without Wilson.
He IS our Offense.

CBS Sports. Loser: Seahawks
Linebacker Jordyn Brooks and edge rusher Darrell Taylor came off the board earlier than expected. The Damien Lewis pick will not be scrutinized. Otherwise, the choices of tight end Colby Parkinson, running back DeeJay Dallas and edge rusher Alton Robinson did not excite.

I don't have an issue with who they took as much as those they passed over.
In years past when we drafted Wagner and Wilson, we were panned as having the worst draft but ended up with All Pros and Pro Bowl players.
So these things in the media don't bother me at all.

That being said, we passed over some game changing talent at WR and RB early on for Brooks. He may be a very solid player and possibly
a Pro Bowl LB at some point, but when was the last time we spent a high pick on a top tier RB? Penny was a 1st round pick, but he was not
top tier. Michael was a high pick, but again, not top tier. I think the last time we did select one of the top RBs was Alexander in the Holmgren
years. Which is odd considering the Offense and identity the FO built and wants to get back to.

Let's not forget how the media went ape chit over Aaron Curry, either.

There are times that I pay some attention to media evaluation, like power rankings, and other times that I don't pay any attention at all to their analysis, and scoring drafts is one of those occasions.

For me, the most curious move was at the very end of the draft. WTF are we doing trading a 6th for a very late 7th and take yet another tight end?

Pete gets guys on defense that buy into all his Tony Robins slogans, and they play above themselves. After 3 years the same old slogans start to run thin.

For some, maybe but it hasn't for KJ or Wagner so it doesn't happen to all players.

Well, when it comes to drafting offensive talent, we can't complain about DK. And I won't complain about Carson, Dissly or Penney either. Certainly, we've been miserable on the OL. But it's always been the most difficult spot to project and, as JS pointed out, the college game today doesn't translate well to the NFL for OL. Hard to project when you're picking as low as we do.

I'm OK with the draft, excited about the potential. And I don't give a rats what draft grades are out there. You can't possibly grade a draft now, and unless they have access to teams draft boards, they have NO clue if a guy was drafted "early" or not. As an example, most all had Epenesa a 1st round (a couple had him a top ten) and look where he went. They think Brooks went to early - but Wingo's first comment on day 2 was that the Bengals staff was wowed with him and dissappointed he was gone at 33. We'll see in 2-3 years......

Every coach including Belichick does things the same way year in and year out. The Patriot Way has been The Patriot Way since the early 2000s. Not sure why you think any professional football player starts to tune out. If you're at the professional level, you can't afford to let motivation run thin. It will cost you your career and the money along with it.

Being a "professional" doesn't change the fact that human emotions come into play far more often that it should. The turning point of this team was one bad play call, or one great defensive play call by Belichick. But that's where it all came apart for the team, Professional or not. The vocal leaders of the team tuned out and never tuned back in.

I agree, and I remember saying at the time it happened that the challenge of bringing a team back after an emotionally devastating loss like SB49 was going to be greater than building the team virtually from scratch into Super Bowl champions. In retrospect, it would have been better had we lost by 3 TD's.

Right! Because its easier to write of a blow out loss mentally, than just give the ball to Lynch! My issue River wasn't the call, it was calling a slant pass with a 5-11 QB! A roll out right or Left and a sack, I could have handled a lot better.

Without a doubt the most controversial play call in Seahawks history. But the issue wasn't Russell's short stature. He had a clear line of sight across the middle when he made the throw. But I agree with you that some sort of run/pass option would have been a better choice.

The knock on Colby Parkinson is his lack of physicality. Draft analysis was that he struggled in run blocking and has "thin limbs". If we can get a year or two out of Greg Olsen and put some meat on Parkinson's bones during that time he might prove to be a good catch.

He has height and is a great pass catcher. You can't teach the former and sometimes the latter.
Maybe they see him as another Graham, but this time they won't emphasize blocking as much although I see Sullivan filling that role of a big WR type.

Is Dissly having problems recovering? Olsen should be a good mentor for these guys for the time he is here.

If we have both TE's stay in and help block, you would think that one of our top 2 WRs would be able to get open especially with their speed.

Wouldn't that mean more pass defenders against the WR's?
I think the TE's will probably be more of a safety valve for Wilson than staying in to block - at least on a regular basis.

As usual the quality of our draft won't be known for a few years including the hindsight is 20/20 about who other teams took that were available to us. I have far more trust in Pete and John's ability to draft defensive talent. Frank Clark turned out great and not many on here liked the pick. Their worst miss on defense was Malik McDowell for reasons you can't really foresee. Wagner, KJ, Sherm, Earl, Kam, and various other role-players over the years. Even Irvin turned out to be a decent LB still in the league after eight years. They rarely miss on defensive talent in the higher rounds. Pete knows what he wants for various defensive positions. Just wish our OC and O-line coach were better at mining gems though it seems our ability to assess WRs seems to be decent if DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are any indication.
