Packers vs. Bears

Ugh. Ugly game.

If anyone wants to know why we didn't hold Russell and the rest of the offense out during the entire preseason, they need to consider the performance of the Bears and Packers offenses. Twice in the first half, the Bears got called for delay of game. The Packers didn't get a first down in the entire first quarter. Outside of one drive by the Packers, both offenses looked totally out of sync. Neither Turbisky or Rodgers played a snap in any of the preseason games.

Offenses in general lag behind defenses early in the season, but this game was exceptional.

Defenses are usually ahead of the Offenses early anyway, so not getting as close to real NFL reps in pre season increases the probability of substandard play.
But they don't have to play a lot, just enough to get them in sync at real speed.
It's a fine line for the starters because you want to minimize risk of injury in meaningless games.

Dream for Sunday - Hawks come out and run the ball steadily with good gains, and Russ goes 15-20 and 2 TD's and the D destroys Dalton and Company. hawks win 34-10

Reality for game 1 - hawks can move the ball in Q-1 and 2. Less than 100 yds at the half with Wilson missing high. 6-12 in passing in first half. In red zone twice can't get a TD. D gets dinked and dunked up and down the field. Halftime Cincy leads 13-6. half two the D shuts out Cincy and the O gets another red zone trip and scores, and a 54 yd FG. Hawks win 16-13. PC says it was a great learning game and all is good.

The whole deal of 'no reps for the starters' and keep the QB off the field and we don't need a 4-game preseason came to full light last night. It looked like pre-season game #1 in the first half. Pretty pathetic offences for two of the better teams in the NFL.

The refs were also a sorry bunch and called far too many minor and/or phantom holding and a couple other calls that stalled the game to the point of boredom. I hope this is not the 'norm' going forward.

It's interesting that we all saw or thought the same thing regarding the starting QB's not getting any work in the preseason.

Again, I agree. We can expect more PI calls this season as a fallout from the NFCCG.

Well Uppercut was pretty close in his prediction wasn't he? I sure hope we are not going to be subjected to another year of no show offense until the 4th qtr but from the looks of yesterday, that's what we'll get again this year.

He was closer than the rest of us, that's for sure.

After all the hype we've been subjected to this offseason, the Browns had to be the biggest letdown so far this week, getting b!tch slapped at home against a team not expected to compete for the SB. Baker Mayfield tossed 3 picks.

I think you have a clear cut case of the "OOPS!" if you have him on your team. :D
