He could immediately endear himself to the SF fans by punching out Jed York.

Did anyone see York's press conference? That reporter has got balls of steel!

Of which you could count me as one of those people.

And Zorny, what names out there would qualify as "big"? The only two college names would be Meyer and Saban, and there's not so much as a whisper that they're considering a jump, and even if they were, why in the heck would they choose an empty cupboard like the Niners when there's other jobs out there with better chances to succeed? The Broncos, Bills, and even the Rams have more to offer than the Niners.

It would? Even if the production went the other way? Interesting.

Cable just isn't HC material, IMO. By itself it wouldn't be a good option for them.

Lots of openings. And they may have to go with a relative unknown, who knows. There's rumors of Sean Payton to the Rams (via local radio here), that he's looking to get out of N.O. Coughlin apparently is talking to his old team, the Jags, about returning.

The key question (that Jed may have answered today, I don't know) is will the GM have enough power on personnel decisions in addition to coaching hire? Jed doesn't need another "yes" man like Ballke, he'd be better served by somebody who will stand his ground when necessary. There are some assistants to our own Schneider that may be candidates for SF GM. We'll see.

I'd kinda forgotten about Payton, but I suppose he'd qualify as a big hire. But Payton just came out and said he's not going anywhere:

Besides, Payton or any other big name coach is going to demand a boat load of money to go into that situation and the Niners already have a ton of money dedicated to their fired coaches, $69M according to some reports. Especially with their revenue way down, how much more money do you think York is going to be spending just on head coaches?

The hottest prospect appears to be Josh McDaniel, but there's going to be several teams make strong runs at him.
