I think the average in the past 10 years is 6 or 7 per season and you really can't count Kubiak as no way was he on the hot seat, so we're actually pretty close to plan. But what is surprising is how many are being let go after just one or two seasons.

I think I heard that the Niners are on the hook for $18M for head coaches and they haven't even signed a new one yet. Kelly is likely heading back to the colleges so he's going to pocket his big contract.

There have been some teams that have hit paydirt with a coaching hire, or at least gone from an also ran to a SB participant in one season. Jim Hairball is one such coaching hire. They had some very good talent for a number of years prior but were missing a key element, ie a head coach that knew how to coach up a quarterback. Owners see that and ask the question "why not us?"

HIs guys never quit on him, and he received good praise from his players. He was also complimentary and apologetic. I'm not sure what kind of future he has in the NFL, but his character seems to be intact under less than ideal circumstances.

I wonder if he could become an OC in the NFL or if he's only interested in being a Head Coach?
He could bring something different to a team with a stale Offense.

Sorry, but I keep seeing something similar, whether for Seattle or someone else. I honestly don't see how that would be a benefit??? He hasn't had a ton of success even on the offensive side of the ball, typically there's a ton of friction with players, coaches and FO, and Kelly's offense has a consistent history of DESTROYING any chance for defensive success.

Edit: I also have to ask, does anyone really believe that Kelly's ego who would allow for a smooth transition to "second fiddle" with zero ultimate power in numerous areas?

Chip Kelly is owed $18M from his 49'ers contract, and if I'm correct, that becomes null and void if he takes another NFL job.

My guess is that he sits out a year and waits for a desirable college job to open up. I'm sure he could use the downtime.
