Are the 12s burning out?

Postby Hawktawk » Tue Sep 13, 2016 11:36 am

I hate to write this. I attended the game with my wife and my two sons. The weekend was an epic adventure with a thrilling tight game which I suspected would be the case.
But the mood in the city seemed complacent. I've been to 1-2 games per year for well over a decade now but this was my first opener. We got into town Saturday and did the tourist stuff, waterfront etc. and a few bars. I was shocked by the lack of Hawks swag and abundance of Dolphins gear.

We stayed at the pioneer square Marriot and the valet said this was the first time he could remember they weren't full for a Seahawks game. Sunday I introduced my family to sluggers. The crowd seemed slow gathering although it wound up packed as usual. But there were dolphins fans all over as well as the people in t shirts etc. who were obviously dolphins fans too pussified to represent.

A large group of dolphins fans was chanting their "here we go dolphins, here we go" basically unchallenged. I was a few places away and had had enough. I have a huge voice and every time they opened their peep I screamed SEA-HAWKS as loud as I could which shut them up quick but really not much backup from other Hawks fans, energy or chants or boos towards opposing fans as I rememberin the past.

At the game it was loud but once again, there were lots of Dolphins fans and when they made a play it was amazingly loud. A few of the regulars commented on it. I know the team we have would be as intense if nobody showed up but I hope the 12th man isn't getting burned out, lazy, or spoiled. Just saying.
Did anyone else attend and get that vibe? Or am I full of shart as usual?

Maybe a little more so 'cause the Fins are my wife's team (she's still in love with Danny Marino)

Bummer Bob...Does she root hawks the other weeks? At least its one thing the missus and I agree on.

I didnt miss a game when the were 2-14. I wear Hawks swag daily year round. Im going nowhere. Likely anyone on the forum is about the same.

It just seemed......muted in Seattle. Is it the opener? Non conference opponent?
I bet if they rip off 4 or 5 things will pick up. The bandwagon riders will puff their chest up.

The Hawks as well as the 12th man seem to start slow and don't hit their peak til midseason, that's the way I see it. :D :D :D :D :D :D

As far as the game goes, maybe more fans than usual decided to sell their tickets, seeing how opening day is a premier time to gouge anybody price wise who wants to attend. On tv, I certainly didn't hear much in the way of cheers for Miami, even when they took the lead in the 4th.

The early games are well attended by the visiting teams. Seattle is a destination city and there's no better time to visit than in September and early October. Go to a home game in November or December and there's a lot fewer opposing fans. Slugger's is my favorite post breakfast, pre game hang out in part because for some reason a lot of the patrons are from visiting cities frequent that bar, and I always like striking up a conversation with folks from around the country.

Just watching from home, I didn't get the impression that the 12th man had waned in the least. They seemed into it throughout most of the game and were really intense on that last series after we'd gone up 12-10. But I wasn't there.

We'll see what happens in our next home game, of which I happen to be attending, vs. the Niners. If both clubs win this weekend, we might just see that old rivalry re-ignite. Should be fun.

If only temporarily.

The real question for SF is if they can cover the 13.5 line, because the Panthers are a whole different ballgame, even with a beat up Cam.

We have our own challenges with RW's ankle, but the Rams are also relying on Case Keenum, who couldn't muster a single scoring drive vs the 49ers. No easy wins, but I like our chances in LA, all things considered, and if front of, what, 100,000 people? lol:)

Maybe it's more complacency with higher expectations than burned out? - thanks to the success that John & Pete have brought to the city.
